Constructed in 2009 at the end of the mound with the help of friends and some heavy equipment. The boulders were delivered and I set about putting rubber liners down and getting the boulders placed on top to form a 2 meter high cascade. I wanted the planting to be Japanese in style but with a European flavour so I used pines and acers with a few Buddleja. The Japonese tend to over manage their gardens very artfully, I leave this a bit more natural but the affect is there. To one side of the cascade is a scree slope planted with a variety of evergreen trees leading up to a lavender bed and an olive tree much as you might see in Provence.
The area now shows a variety of aspects, depending on where you stand, all blending together as you move from one bridge to another or walk to an other part of the garden.
